Cleaning & Polishing Keypins

The front rail and balance rail pins on a piano inevitably get corrosion over time which can cause excess friction in the key which causes a sluggishness to the pianist.  Occasionally cleaning and polishing the keypins will help remove the corrosion and restore the pin to be smooth and slippery so the key can glide properly.  The items needed for this task are:

 

Parts and Supplies Needed:

- Metal Polish such as Flitz or Noxon 7
- Pipe cleaners or cotton swabs
- #0000 or #000 steel wool if there is slight surface rust on the pins
- Protek CLP
