Welcome to this next video. This video is going to be an introduction of our new video series. Some videos based on how to tune a piano. Now, it obviously won't be a complete course on piano tuning and repair and everything but it will give you some basics about how to start the process of tuning the piano and to get you all the way through to be able to to tune a piano. Whether it be your own piano, or if you're just starting out and want to learn how to tune pianos for others, it will kind of give you the basics and get you to that point where you can go through the whole piano, and tune the entire thing and get it to a fairly decent level.

This method, we're not going to go through all the complete theory and everything about piano tuning, but we're going to kind of focus on using an electronic tuning device in order to tune, because I feel that for a beginning tuner it kind of gets you started, and can get you to the point of being able to tune a piano, and learn some of the hammer techniques, and control, and setting the pin, and all that kind of thing without having to work too much on training your ear, which you do want to do eventually. Especially if you're going to learn to tune for others.

But this method that we're going to be teaching in this series of videos is going to teach you the basics, and get you up and running so that you can get somewhat decent tuning that sounds acceptable using an electronic tuning device. So they're gonna be several videos. The first is going to walk you through the tools that are needed in order to do a basic piano tuning, and you'll see links in front of you on the screen to take you to those videos directly. The next video is going to show you how to use an electronic tuning device. We're going to talk a little bit about some of the different electronic tuning devices available.

The next video is going to be talking about hammer. The tuning hammer technique, specifically how you manipulate the hammer, and get that tuning pin so that it's set, and how to move your tuning hammer so that you get the best possible stability in the tuning pins because if you turn it a certain way, and just pull on it a little bit, without actually moving the tuning pin in the block, you're not going to have a very stable tuning and that's going to go out of tune right away. The next video after that is going to be talking about tuning the mid range, which would be this whole middle section of notes. What we're going to start with in that video is tuning one string for each note in that in this middle section and that'll be part of that video. The next video is going to be going through and tuning the unison, and what that is, is once we've tuned one string per note we're going to go through and tune the rest of the strings.

As you can see, most of the notes have three strings per note, so if we just do one, then we have to go back through and tune the other two for each of the notes, and then finally, we're going to go through and tune the the bass section and the high treble section in the last video and by that time you'll have gotten through the entire piano and should sound fairly decent if you follow all the instructions and so forth. It does take a little practice.

Obviously, our series of videos won't teach you how to be a concert pianist or concert piano tuner or concert piano technician but we'll get you through and if you've got an awfully out of tune piano it certainly will sound better by the time you're done.
